Subject: Token Trailer Registration Renewal at Subcontractor Locations
To inform you of a processing problem when attempting to scan a Registration Renewal Notice for a Token Trailer at subcontractor locations.
In December 2010, with RTS Release 6.6.0, we introduced changes to Token Trailer registration that prevented the printing of a sticker at time of renewal through RTS Point-of-Sale (RTB #006-10). We also informed you that the Remote Sticker Printing System (RSPS) used by subcontractors had not been modified and that counties should instruct subcontractors to dispose of the sticker by removing and placing it on the back of the county's receipt or some other acceptable method.
To accommodate the suppression of sticker printing, the Sticker Type Code was changed from "US" to "NONE" on the Token Trailer record in RTS and in the barcode. When a renewal notice is scanned using the RSPS, an error occurs, which prevents processing of the renewal.
The TxDMV programmers have resolved the issue; however, due to the lead time required to generate and print Registration Renewal Notices, the fix will not be reflected on renewal notices with a month of expiration prior to July.
We anticipate the volume of Token Trailer renewals at subcontractor locations to remain very low; however, counties should inform subcontractors of this issue. Customers with a Token Trailer Registration Renewal Notice for April, May or June, will not be able to renew their registration at subcontractor locations and should be directed to their local county tax assessor-collector's office.
Token Trailer registrants also have the option of renewing online through the Internet Vehicle Title and Registration Services (in participating counties) or they may set up a fleet account through the new Token Trailer Fleet Program by calling 512-374-5250.
