Registration Receipt Not Required at Time of Title Transfer for Currently Titled Texas Vehicles
PURPOSE
To notify you of a statutory change concerning the title transfer procedures for the purchaser of used motor vehicle, as renumbered in Section 501.0721, Transportation Code.
DETAILS
Effective January 1, 2012, with the passage of HB 2357, state law no longer requires a registration receipt to be delivered to the purchaser of a used motor vehicle or to be included with the title transfer documentation. Only a properly assigned title or other evidence of title is required to be delivered by the purchaser of a used motor vehicle.
The Motor Vehicle Title Manual on the TxDMV web site has been updated with this information.
COUNTY ACTION
It will no longer be necessary for you to print and charge a customer (vehicle purchaser) for a RTS Vehicle Inquiry and/or Duplicate Registration Receipt since the registration receipt is no longer required to be included with the title transfer documentation.
