These documents contain text of correspondence sent by TxDOT to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the state's vehicle titling and registration process.

PURPOSE

To eliminate the requirement that a form VTR-68-A be submitted by active U.S. military personnel and immediate family members when applying for a Texas title on an imported vehicle.

DETAILS

Currently a form VTR-68-A, Application for Assigned or Reassigned Number, is required with all title transactions supported by foreign ownership evidence filed on or after August 1, 2000 (refer to RTB #39-00). All other documents must be submitted including the appropriate U.S. Customs forms.

COUNTY ACTION

Effective immediately, U.S. military personnel, including immediate family members, returning to Texas military bases are no longer required by departmental procedure to submit a completed form VTR-68-A. Proof of active duty and assignment to a Texas military base is required at the county tax assessor-collector's office.
