PURPOSE

To provide you with information concerning the two different formats of the HVUT Form 2290 Schedule 1 for the tax period July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.

DETAILS

In August 2007, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) began accepting electronic filing of the Form 2290 Schedule 1 in addition to the revised paper Form 2290 Schedule 1. We have attached copies of both forms for your convenience.

Carriers required to file the Form 2290 electronically (25 or more vehicles) receive an electronic receipt in an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. The carrier can print the receipt and provide it at the time of registration as proof of payment of the HVUT. The e-form includes an "IRS e-file" watermark and indicates the date the tax was paid in the following format - "Received MM/DD/YYYY." The form revision date is 7-2007, which is located in the lower right-hand corner.

The revised paper Form 2290 Schedule 1 contains new block style entry for the Employer Identification Number (EIN) and the vehicle identification number (VIN). The revised form allows IRS to scan the document and capture the EIN and VIN information into the HVUT database. The form is stamped received and dated as before. The form revision date is 7-2007, which is located in the lower right-hand corner.
