To provide you with information on House Bill 3437 (copy attached) passed by the 80th Legislature, Regular Session, 2007.

House Bill 3437 amends Texas Transportation Code, Chapter 502 by adding Section 502.1725, Optional County Fee For Transportation Projects (Optional Mobility Fee). The bill provides that, upon order by the commissioners' court, counties that border the United Mexican States and have a population of more than 300,000, and the largest municipality within the county has a population of less than 300,000, may charge an additional fee of up to $10 at the time of vehicle registration. Currently, only Cameron and Hidalgo counties meet the population criteria specified in the bill.

We are informing all county tax assessor-collectors of this new statute in the event you receive any inquiries concerning the Optional Mobility Fee.
