Date: February 15, 2011
To:
All County Tax Assessor-Collectors
Subject: New Procedures for Handling Certain Money Mail
These documents contain text of correspondence sent by TxDMV to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the state's vehicle titling and registration process.
PURPOSE
To provide information regarding new procedures for handling title and registration transactions received by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) instead of the appropriate County Tax Assessor-Collector's (TAC) office
DETAILS
We recently reviewed our procedures concerning mail that includes payments to a TAC office that is sent in error to the TxDMV.
The current procedure of accepting these packets at TxDMV and routing the payments through our Finance Division can result in lost packages or the delayed return of those packages to the customer. To avoid lost paperwork and expedite processing for our customers, any money mail intended for county processing and incorrectly sent to TxDMV will now be forwarded directly to the appropriate TAC via U.S. postal service.
A copy of the sample cover letter to the TACs that will be sent with this misdirected mail is attached.
