Subject: Retention of Application for Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard and/or License Plates (Form VTR-214).
PURPOSE
To update you on the retention of the Application for Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard and/or License Plates (Form VTR-214).
DETAILS
In January 2010, we notified you regarding the court ruling on the Meyers vs. Texas lawsuit and that individuals who purchased a placard(s) between August 11, 1995, and July 7, 2008, were entitled to a full refund. As you may recall, this ruling resulted from a lawsuit brought against the state for charging a fee for issuance of permanent disabled placards.
After the announcement of the settlement, we requested that you retain your files on the Application for Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard and/or License Plates until approved for destruction by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Office. On February 15, 2011, we received guidance from the AG's Office that all applications must be retained until further notice.
We will stay in contact with the OAG on the retention of the applications and will provide you with updates as appropriate.
