Out-of-State Salvage and Nonrepairable Titles Stamped 'For Export Only' or Assigned to a Foreign Purchaser

PURPOSE

To provide policy clarification regarding title transactions involving out-of-state salvage and nonrepairable titles stamped 'for export only' or assigned to a foreign purchaser.

DETAILS

Effective immediately, out-of-state salvage and nonrepairable titles stamped 'for export only' or assigned to a foreign purchaser will be processed in accordance with Transportation Code, Section 501.099. This section states that a foreign purchaser of a salvage or nonrepairable motor vehicle will remove the motor vehicle from the United States and not return the motor vehicle to any state as a motor vehicle titled or registered under its manufacturer's vehicle identification number.

Out-of-state salvage or nonrepairable vehicles marked 'for export only' or assigned to a foreign purchaser are not acceptable for title in Texas.

COUNTY ACTION

Do not accept out-of-state or Texas salvage or nonrepairable titles stamped 'for export only' or assigned to a foreign purchaser as acceptable documentation in title transactions.
