"The Texas Classic" General Issue License Plate
PURPOSE
To provide you with information on "The Texas Classic" license plate for passenger vehicles and trucks.
DETAILS
In July 2012 the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles announced a design change of the general issue license plate. The new "The Texas Classic" license plate has a retro style and provides the following benefits over the current general issue plate:
The black-and-white design offers a more legible plate number for vehicle identification
The license plate contains new embedded security features to protect against fraud
"The Texas Classic" license plate will be issued to both passenger vehicles and trucks, which will eliminate the need for dual inventory
Distribution of "The Texas Classic" plate to county tax offices began in July, as counties depleted their inventory of (blue sky) "Passenger" plates. While the current inventory of the (blue sky) "Truck" plates has not been depleted, it is getting close. We estimate depletion of the (blue sky) "Truck" license plates will occur by the end of November 2012, at which time the counties will begin issuing "The Texas Classic" to trucks.
In anticipation of "The Texas Classic" for trucks, programming changes have been made to the department's Registration and Title System (RTS) to allow for issuance of the "The Texas Classic" license plate for trucks.

As a reminder, "The Texas Classic" license plate will be issued to both passenger vehicles and trucks, eliminating the need for dual inventory. Please do not issue "The Texas Classic" license plate until your current inventory of (blue sky) "Passenger" and "Truck" plates is depleted. We appreciate your support in order to avoid waste.
DTA DEALER ACTION
To accommodate "The Texas Classic" license plate for both passenger vehicles and trucks, the description (name) of the existing RegPltCd "PSP" has been changed from "PASSENGER PLT" to "PASSENGER-TRUCK PLT." There is no new RegPltCd.
When processing transactions where the NEW "The Texas Classic" general issue license plates are issued to a passenger vehicle or truck, the Plate Type will be "PASSENGER-TRUCK PLT" and the Plate Code (RegPltCd) will be "PSP."
